Elkay – Energy Saving Switches & Controls has launched a full and complete range of Solar Connectors for all solar applications from domestic residential, commercial premises, industrial businesses right up to large scale solar farms. We are the only provider offering a full and complete range of solar connection products for the marker in the UK and Ireland. We have the following solar connection products in our range for our growing customer base.

• Straight Connectors (often referred to as MC4 ) – Pairs and singles for cable sizes from 2.5mm² to 10mm²

Our connectors have full TUV test certification and meet the all the relevant standards including IEC 62852 (EN 62852, BS 62852). We have full UV protection as per ISO 4892-2 and we have certification relating to the salt mist test for all marine and coastal solar applications. The connectors have a flame retardant thermoplastic that can be exposed to UV for up to 20 years giving a guarantee of peace of mind in the installation.

Straight Connectors

 

This is the main connector used by Solar panel companies and by installers of all sizes of Solar installations. Often referred to as MC4s in the industry but here at Elkay we like to call them EMPV4Ns as this denotes the male and female pair and crimps. Each pack of 50 pairs comes with one free spanner and disconnector key in every box and we also offer a 50 x 1 pair pack known as EMPV4NSINGLE for the installer that does not like the bulk pack and prefers them paired up in each bag.

We also provide these connectors separately as Male EMPV4NM and Female EMPV4NF for those installers who prefer to not utilise pairs.

 

 Straight Inline Fused Connectors

Same as above but with the addition of a fuse to protect large strings from over voltages, lightning strikes, damaged cabling and damaged panels etc. It considerably limits the replacement cost of equipment that is damaged and is often used where access is easy such as in Solar Farms or on easily accessible commercial roofs.

Fuses are available for the connectors to suit the installation requirements  for the 1000VDC version from 4A to 30A and in 1500VDC versions 15A, 20A and 30A.

 

Branch Connectors

 

There as sold as either Male or Female and never together. Sometimes known as Y connectors combing two strings into one, Branch connectors have 3 branches 2 for inputs either male or female and 1 for outputs also either male or female.

 

Panel or Bulkhead Connectors

 

We have a range of panel or bulkhead connectors which have a locknut at one end and a male of female connection at the other and are used at final connection to either the panel or the distribution board or consumer unit panel. As standard we also offer the sealing plugs with every panel connector and this is included in the price to ensure there is no dust or water ingress before mating the connectors.

 

Solar Extension Leads

These are commonly used when solar panels need to be laid horizontally rather than vertically and provide an extension cable between the panels. They also help to connect panels on angle d roofs where the is a gap or gully between panel arrays. We offer 1.5 to 2.5 metre lengths in 4mm CSA but can accommodate requests.

Solar Harnesses

 

The over moulded Solar Harness solutions are particularly useful for large solar farm installations or for installations and in solar social housing projects where all the roof sizes are the same. It allows huge time savings for the installation teams and allows then to ‘copy and paste’ the installation reducing install time. These can be configured and customised using straight connectors or inline straight fuse connectors with cable sizes from 2.5mm to 6mm².

 

Solar Toolkits

 

We have a fully stocked Solar Installation Kit for those installers that need to have all their kit in one place. It includes a Solar Crimp Tool with crimp holder, Cable Cutter and Cable Stripper and a go-no-go gauge and several types of solar spanner and disconnector keys as well as spare crimps and spare solar connectors.
